What's New!

Ten years ago, Staff of Hope built and opened Oloile Secondary School in Kenya.  What started as an open, dusty land with a few acacia trees, has now grown into one of the most respected schools in the area with many graduates going on to receive a degree beyond high school.

Over the past ten years, our school has had to overcome many challenges:  traditions that discourage girls attending school, droughts, even elephants who visit wanting to eat some of our green grass and plants.  With each adversity we have overcome, God has blessed us with successes so that this school glorifies Him while providing an opportunity to “Learn and Shine” as is stated in the school motto.

As 2017 comes to an end, Oloile Secondary School has 126 students (boys & girls) who are preforming well and who are dreaming about their future.  In October 2017, Staff of Hope was able to open a new boy’s dorm.  This new facility can easily hold seventy boys and will allow them to have a clean, safe home during the school year.  The girls are still enjoying their dorm under the care and guidance of Kristine.  This year we also improved the electricity supply to the school, planted grass and plants, finished onsite faculty housing for two families (as pictured below), hired some new teachers, and of course, taught the students with high standards so they may take another step forward for their future.

We invite you to continue to partner with us so that together, we may walk with the teachers, students and other staff of Oloile Secondary School.  We at Staff of Hope are excited to move into our seventeenth year of ministry.

November 2016

Loving our neighbors and glorifying God

In August 2016, ten members from a church in North Carolina traveled to Kenya.  This group mixed a lot of concrete and carried a lot of solid concrete blocks.  The people from this church worked very hard to construct housing for two of our teachers on our school compound and constructed a small building to be used as a canteen and an office.

The physical work this team did with the Kenyans during the two-week trip really helped our school, yet the trip was more than working with bricks and concrete.  The church group and the Kenyans were building neighbors.  Jesus instructs us to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves.  This trip allowed people who live on the opposite side of the earth to know each other by name and to build relationships.  This trip helped us all to see the church is connected wherever people gather in His name.

The intention of this letter is to be an invitation to continue the ministry, not only from the group that went over the summer, but also all of the ministry that has been happening over the last fifteen years since Staff of Hope was established in 2001.

Together we are making an impact!

MargaretWhile walking to school, Margaret was attacked by a hyena... yes a hyena! After surgery and healing she was more determined than ever to get her education. When Margaret graduated from Staff of Hope’s Oloile High School, she had the highest grades in her class. On December 4, 2015, Margaret will graduate with a degree in Business Administration, specializing in accounting/finance, from a very reputable university in Nairobi. It is Margaret’s hope that with her degree she can help others in her community as well as to be a positive role model for other girls.

Esther had to walk 5 miles, twice a day, every day to get water for her family in the same stream that goats and cows drank from. Staff of Hope’s drill rig came to her community, drilled a well, constructed a water tower, built two troughs for the animals, and piped water to irrigate fields so crops could be grown. Now Esther and her community have clean, easily accessible water and they are all healthier and better able to care for themselves.

In rural Kenya, there is much to overcome. Yet with the determined spirits of Kenya and the generous hearts of Staff of Hope donors, we are making an impact!
