2020 | The Whole World in His Hands

On New Year’s Day we celebrated the start of 2020.  Who could imagine what was ahead?

Even in a chaotic world, The Bible teaches that God not only has the whole world in His hands, but the entire universe is in His hands (Rev. 1).

New boy's dormJust as USA students were sent home during the pandemic, the students at the Staff of Hope school, Oloile Secondary School in Kenya, were also sent home.  The Staff of Hope ministry continues to move forward in East Africa.  We pay our teachers every month their full salary even while the school is closed.  In addition to this, Staff of Hope sends money monthly to help our friends with food purchases, medical care and other necessitates during this challenging time.  We have also sent money to support pastors in their ministry to their congregations.

In the Spring of 2020, Staff of Hope began construction on a new boy’s dorm that will hold 48 boys.  This dorm will allow proper social distancing and the possibility of increasing the number of boys attending our school in the future.  Building this dorm also created jobs for local workers.  The boys will enjoy a new boy’s bathroom which we will finish this month.

New boy's dormStaff of Hope continues to farm on our campus providing a healthy diet for our students and teachers.  Any vegetables grown that are not consumed at school, will be sold in the market to help the community while generating an income for Oloile.

Staff of Hope’s Oloile Secondary School is a four-year school that strives to maintain high academic standards, preparing our students for the future, while providing opportunities for them to grow in their Christian faith.  It is our hope that when they graduate (we have one of the highest graduation rates in the county) our students will have a strong foundation from computers to farming and English to Swahili, allowing them to grow and shine in the future.

Oloile Secondary has the largest computer lab in three counties.  Our laptops enable us to provide computer education and use to students from the rural areas who otherwise would never have a chance to experience this.

Staff of Hope is excited to celebrate Oloile’s growth to 165 students.  We believe a quality education is key to the success of a developing country.  We are thankful for your partnership in prayer and in your generous financial giving.

Staff of Hope's response to the COVID-19 virus

Thank you to all of our ministry partners.

Staff of Hope continues to minister in East Africa during this virus.

Below is a brief update about our response and plans for continued support to those we minister with in East Africa.

  1. Oloile Secondary School has been closed and all students sent home while the virus spreads.
  2. Staff of Hope will continue to pay our school faculty and staff even while school is closed.
  3. One month’s salary was advanced to all school employees to help them prepare.
  4. $2,500 was wired to our ministry partners for food.
  5. Our friends in Kenya and Uganda are praying for Staff of Hope and all our supporters. We have been praying for our partners in ministry in East Africa.

Plans for further support during the spread of the virus:

  1. $4,000 to purchase a generator for school to provide continuous water for crops and for clean drinking water in Kimana.
  2. $3,000 for food, seeds, chickens, goats, and blankets in Kimana and Namanga.
  3. We will be stewards of donations for medical assistance.

Staff of Hope continues to “run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the pioneer, and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12: 1-2).

We are praying for our partners in ministry in the USA, East Africa, and other parts of the world.

Together in Prayer,

 Staff of Hope

2019 Deep Roots

Digging into the dusty Kenyan ground, a tree finds its home for decades to come. Then another hole dug, and another tree planted.  Twenty trees begin to press their roots into the dry ground.  Day after day, our school staff return to these 20 trees to water them and make sure they weren't eaten by termites from below or goats from above.  Next, 1,000 bushes - not 1 or 10 or 100 - are planted to eventually grow thorns to be woven together and become a living bush fence around our school.

Like the growth of these trees and thorn bushes, each student who enters Staff of Hope’s Oloile Secondary School is ministered to at our school for four years.  We want our students to have deep roots in high academic standards, in their preparation for the future, and in the Lord Jesus.

In addition to planting trees and plants, we also painted our classrooms and our front gate.  Our school is the first school in the area to have a mascot for our athletics teams.  We are now the Oloile Eagles…Go Eagles!

It is our hope that when our students graduate (we have one of the highest graduation rates in the county), they will have a strong foundation. From computers to farming, English to Swahili, we want our students to grow and shine in the furture.  In addition to classwork, we have a Christian club and all of our teachers are Christians, helping our students grow deep roots in the Christian faith.

Oloile Secondary has the largest computer lab in three counties.  Our fifteen laptops enable us to teach these students from rural areas how computer use is essential. Computer science is now a required course for our school as these students look ahead to the future.

Staff of Hope is excited Oloile that has grown to 155 students.  We believe a quality education is key to the success of a developing country.  We are thankful for your partnership in prayer and in your generous financial giving.
