2014 and Looking Forward to 2015

Clean Water!

This fall, Staff of Hope’s drill rig turned west leaving the paved roads near the small town of Namanga and drove off road for many hours. After arriving at the drill location, our team turned on the drill rig, the drill bit began to rotate and push deep into the dusty earth of Africa. Our drill hit water! Lots of clean water was found deep within the earth!

The community of that drill site has a population of about 4,000 people plus their livestock. The people in this area have never farmed before. As this letter is being written, 2 new farms are now preparing to receive water from the well we drilled. We will also pipe water to our medical clinic. People will soon be able to take clean water directly from the well back to their families. We are building a trough for cows and a separate trough for goats. This area is being completely transformed thanks to the generous donations from Staff of Hope’s donors.

Education is key for people to grow and become self-sufficient. Oloile Secondary School, founded by Staff of Hope, strives to provide quality education for success in the present and future. Our school is one of the top ranked schools and has more of our graduates go on to higher education then any other in the district. During this special season, we invite you to continue to partner with us by making a generous donation to Staff of Hope.

Merry Christmas and may 2014 be a year full of blessings!

Since our founding in 2001, we have worked together making a real impact in east Africa for tens of thousands of people each year.

Each summer Staff of Hope hosts different groups to work in Kenya or Tanzania and the summer of 2013 was no exception.  When people come to east Africa for the first time it is common for people to say, “I did not know it was like this” or simply “I had no idea”.  East Africa is a place very different from what we are accustomed to.

The poverty faced daily in east Africa is unlike the challenges we face.  In Kenya it is normal to walk 5 miles to get water, and then carry that water, weighing 40 lbs., back home.  With your generous giving, Staff of Hope is able to drill 20 wells each year, giving water to 20,000 people plus their livestock and their farms.

Oloile SchoolStaff of Hope’s Oloile Secondary School is a place of growth.  Within the school compound plants are growing and birds have come in to nest because we have a water well.  In August 2013 a group of college students and parents from North Carolina came and fenced in our soccer field so that we can plant grass there and have the only grass field in the district.  Just as water changes everything, education changes everything.  We teach our students: as the plants are growing and water is the source for this growth, the students’ education is the source for their growth.  We believe education is their future to become self-sufficient and to break out of poverty.

Medical ClinicThis past August a medical team worked at the Staff of Hope rural medical clinic.  It was not uncommon to hear one of them say, “I did not know”.  After several days of treating the local poor this team got a glimpse of the difficulties these people must endure daily by not having water, or enough food.  Our clinic is the only clinic within a days walk so it is making an impact right where it is most needed.  In early 2014 we will drill a water well costing $38,000 to finally bring this poor and dry community clean running water.  All of the undesignated giving this Christmas season will be applied to drill this well.

Staff of Hope sees missions as not just offering a bandage then moving on; rather a long journey of walking together one step at a time.  During this special season we invite you to continue to partner with us by making a generous donation to Staff of Hope.

Monetary contributions are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

As you give please consider the impact your gift will make:

$35 Clean water to a family for a month

$75 Goat which helps a family be self-sustaining

$100 Teacher’s salary for a month

$200 Cow which helps a family be self-sustaining

$420 Educating an Oloile school student for a year

$5,000 Constructing the next needed building at our school or the clinic well

$16,000 Remaining amount needed to drill the water well at the clinic

*Gift Matching - This year we are once again grateful to have a donor offering to match gifts up to a total of $20,000 through the end of 2013.  Please consider giving an extra $10 or more and have your gift matched!
