Summer 2008 news update

Most years, summer is our busiest season, and 2008 has proved to be no exception. We've continued operations in Kenya and Tanzania throughout the post-election turmoil. With a political compromise in place, we continue to hope for reconciliation among the many tribal groups within Kenya.
Despite this our tempo has remained high throughout the summer. We've hosted several groups, including one climbing expedition to the top of Kilimanjaro. As in past years we were inundated with volunteers for our internship program and accommodated as many as we could in support of the Oloile Secondary school and other programs in Kenya. With all of your support and prayers, the year which started so badly for the communities we support has turned into a blessed series of events for all involved.
Karero Clinic
With great joy we are happy to report that the clinic in Karero has seen its first patients. While not open full time yet, a team has conducted the first open clinic day for the Karero clinic. The team was able to treat over 200 patients. We're currently in the staffing process in conjunction with the local villages it supports to the relationship and commitment between us to make this project a long term success. We will be hosting a celebration on August 26th to open the well we drilled to support the clinic and surrounding community.
Water Drilling Operations
Since Staff of Hope's start in 2001, bringing clean water has been a top priority for the organization. Since that time we've drilled over a dozen wells with the well worn and aging drill rig we acquired at the beginning. We've have fortunately been able to raise some of the money needed to replace this rig. This new rig will shorten well drilling times from months to days and allow us to grow from drilling 5-6 wells/year to drilling 25-30 wells/year. While the hardships and effects of poverty are far from removed, we've been very grateful for the progress that has been made this first half of 2008.
